Kyo Kiyomizu 27-1-3
 

Designated as a World Heritage sites in 1994, this temple attracts 5 million people every year. The architectural style of the veranda, part of the main hall, is famous. It is built out over a steep cliff, supported by 48 Japanese zelkova tree pillars without using a single nail. The view of the city center of Kyoto from the veranda is magnificent.

Gion is a place where geiko (geisha) and maiko, apprentice geiko live. They are kimono-clad female entertainers. If you are very lucky, you may run into them in Gion. They usually perform at private parties but there are chances for visitors to watch their performance at theaters. Also, if you wish, we will guide you to a shop where you can change into either geiko or maiko costume.

Kyo ginkaku v-1 27-1-3
This was built in the 15th century by the 8th shogun of Ashikaga samurai government.   Although it is not covered with silver, the wooden pavilion and its elegant garden will attract you. It is said that they express “Wabi Sabi”, which is based on the idea that beauty lies in simplicity.
